The list of candidates for the Alpena city manager’s position has been narrowed from 39 to 6.

The firm selected to conduct the management search trimmed the list from 39 to 12, and then asked the municipal council to further reduce that number to those candidates who will be interviewed.

Council met in closed session Monday night and emerged with its list of finalists.

Mayor Matt Waligora said council would not release details on the candidates until after they can be reached and have time to speak with their current employers. More details might be released as early as Wednesday afternoon.

Interviews will be held on Saturday, October 5 and will be open to the public.

The city is looking for someone to replace manager Greg Sundin, who is retiring in December.

The salary range for the position is $95,000-$112,000.
