Two young Alpena men both have an opportunity to clear their criminal record after recently being sentenced on a gun incident.

Andrew Swoffer-Sauls, 20, and Cody Headley, 22, have both been sentenced under the terms of the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act (HYTA) for a period of one-year.

In July 2018, Swoffer asked Headley to purchase him a gun, since he was too young to legally buy a firearm. Headley bought the gun for his friend but the two men were arrested and jailed the same day.

Swoffer spent 12 days behind bars.

Judge Michael Mack spoke sternly to both men during sentencing. He reminded them of the ongoing gun violence and mass shootings occurring across the United States.

Both men apologized for their actions. They have an opportunity to get a felony weapons charged expunged from their records if they stay out of further trouble with the law over the next year.

Headley has completed 16 hours of community service and was ordered by Mack to perform another 24 hours.
