The City of Alpena has earned the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting for the 25th consecutive year.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2018.

The city’s annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 19,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.

While the City has received the award for the 25th consecutive year, it is the first under the leadership of Clerk/Treasurer/Finance Director Anna Soik. The rest of Soik’s team includes Deputy Clerk Leilan Bruning, Administrative Assistant Jennifer Berant, Administrative Assistant Kate Straley and Account Clerk Lucille Bray.
