The second of three goose hunts in the City of Alpena will be held Thursday.

A total of 32 geese were harvested during the first hunt.

The hunts, which are limited to Mich-e-ke-wis Park and the county fairgrounds, are being used to control the number of geese in town.

Each hunt starts at daylight and continues to 1 p.m. Harassment techniques will be employed at the same time to move geese out of areas where their droppings have been causing problems.

During hunting hours, the lakeshore at Mich-e-ke-wis Park and the Bi-Path behind the water treatment plant and along the river at the fairgrounds will be closed to the public.

City employees and select experienced hunters will make up two groups of hunters – one for the park and one for the fairgrounds.

The third and final hunt of the season will be conducted next Thursday, September 19.
