There’s nothing like the smell of chowder and chili in the air during fall.

There will be plenty of good smells, sights and sounds to enjoy when the Alpena Downtown Development Authority hosts its 6th annual Chowder and Chili Cook-off next month.

“Weather permitting, we will be closing and using Second Avenue for our annual fall event,” said Anne Gentry, Executive Director of the DDA. “Each year, the event has drawn more attendees and participants and grown, including the change to make the event zero-waste with reusable muffin tins and spoons. We are excited to host another year of this annual fall downtown event.”

Registration is $25 and is now open to people who want to show off their chowder or chili. The DDA is encouraging businesses, organizations and individuals, professional or amateur, to consider joining in on the fun. Registration information is available online at downtownalpenami.

The event is being held on Saturday, October 5, from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for all tastings; and beer and wine will be available for purchase. All proceeds go towards community events and promotional activities in downtown.
