The new artificial turf field for Wildcat Stadium will be put down over the next two weeks.

The installation process is expected to start Tuesday. The turf and some installation products were dropped off Monday.

Large donations from the Park Family Foundation, Besser Foundation, Lafarge and a family endowment fund totaling $700,000 is covering the cost of the new turf, which will be called
Park Family Field. There will also be a logo for Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union on the field, which is helping Alpena Public Schools orchestrate the financial end of the project.

The new field will be striped for football, soccer and lacrosse.

Superintendent John VanWagoner believes the artificial turf could save the district approximately $25,000 a year in maintenance costs. That amount of money is expected to be set aside annually so the school district has the money it needs to replace the turf every 12-15 years.

Wildcat fans will also notice new, white goal posts; and a lighting project has been competed that will make it easier to see all the action.
