The average price of gasoline in Michigan hit a new high in 2019 last week, of $2.95 per gallon.

AAA says the current statewide average price of $2.94 is up 9 cents over the week.

AAA found the most expensive gas of $2.95 a gallon in both Ann Arbor and metro Detroit. The cheapest gas of $2.87 was found in Marquette and Traverse City.

As of early Tuesday morning, motorists in the Alpena area were paying an average of $2.84 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, up 11cents from one week ago. Prices peaked at $2.99 a gallon in Alpena last week.

Growing demand and shrinking gas stocks are contributing to pump price increases, according to new data released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
