A man who is encouraging others to try bicycling while raising awareness of suicide prevention has made his way to northeast Michigan.

Daniel Hurd is biking 25,000 miles through each of the lower 48 states over a three-year period to spread his message and raise funds for suicide prevention.

He has currently been on the road for 16 months and biked 12,000 miles. Michigan is the 26th state he has been through.

Hurd is in the Cheboygan area this week, and also spending time in Mackinac and on Mackinac Island. He says he speaks with people daily “on the importance of talking to everyone when you are struggling and for others that are in good sound mind to be willing to listen to others that may be in need.”

Hurd tried suicide three times and eventually found that bicycling helped him let go of those feelings.

After leaving the Cheboygan area, Hurd will head back to the west side of the state, then south and eventually into Illinois. For additional information visit ridewithdanusa.com.
