A record number of Americans will hit the roads and the skies this 4th of July holiday weekend.

AAA estimates nearly 49 million people have plans to getaway.

That includes almost 1.7 million Michiganders who have vacation plans, up 4.4 percent from one year ago. Another nearly 1.5 million Michigan residents have road trips planned to celebrate America’s birthday.

AAA says that while gas prices might be cheaper this year, travelers will pay 10 percent more on airfare and 5 percent more on car rentals. Meanwhile, midrange accommodations are expected to cost travelers between $153 for AAA Two Diamond and $189 for AAA Three Diamond rated hotels.

The most popular destinations for Michiganders leaving the state include Orlando, Florida; Honolulu, Hawaii; Seattle, Washington; Las Vegas and Anaheim, California.
