Feeding Alpena’s children during the summer months

There’s little doubt most children in the Alpena area are excited about the end of the school year; unfortunately that means many of them will lose their main source of a nutritional meal.

Thankfully there are multiple options available to families and their kids.

Four different groups or churches will be providing meals at no cost in order to reduce hunger for school age kids in the community.

The Friendship Room at St. Bernard Catholic Church provides meals all year round with no age restrictions. The Salvation Army will be providing breakfast and lunch to school age children Monday through Friday, from June 24 to August 16. The Boys and Girls Club will serve lunch and an afternoon snack to all children 19 and under, from June 17 to August 17. No membership is required. And Feeding Kids Ministry, through Resurrection Lutheran Church, will serve lunch to elementary-age students at Ella White Elementary School Monday through Friday, from June 24 to August 9.

Feeding Kids Ministry is the same group that through the school year supplies food packages to children in need on Fridays, so they have food for the weekend.

A complete list of dates, times and locations for this summer’s free meals can be viewed below.
