No one was injured when a small fire broke out at the Lafarge cement plant in Alpena Thursday.

Captain Rob Edmonds said city firefighters were sent to the plant shortly after 10 a.m. on a report of a conveyor belt fire.

When crews arrived on scene they were greeted by heavy smoke billowing from a processing area where product is moved by conveyor belt. Edmonds said the fire was quickly extinguished and there was no structural damage to the equipment or the building; and no injuries were reported.

Crews remained on scene for about 45 minutes.

The Alpena Township Fire Department was called in for mutual aid to establish an additional water supply.
