For the second time in less than three months an Alpena County Commissioner is stepping down.

Kevin Burr has submitted his letter of resignation, effective May 31.

Burr has been representing District 7 for less than five months after winning the seat in the November 2018 election. He told True North Radio Network he is moving to Indiana for a new job. “It’s just too good of an opportunity to pass up,” he said.

Burr has been in the Alpena area his whole life and plans to visit frequently as many family members live here. He also said he would like to retire in the area someday.

District 7 covers all of Wilson, Green, and Wellington townships, along with a portion of Long Rapids Township. Letters of application from residents interested in the vacancy must be submitted to the county clerk’s office no later than Friday, June 21 at noon. The board will then interview candidates at its June 25 meeting, and appoint someone.

For additional information call 354-9520.

Burr’s term runs through December 31, 2020.

Former commissioner Nick Modrzynski resigned from the board in early March.
