A member of the Alpena Pubic Schools board of education has stepped down.

Jackie Krawczak recently submitted her letter of resignation.

Krawczak cited a busy schedule that doesn’t allow her the time commitment she believes the seat deserves. She said her job as president and CEO of the local chamber of commerce has become more demanding and requires more travel and she is struggling to make board and board committee meetings.

For example, she planned to read her letter of resignation at Monday evening’s full board meeting but had to be in Lansing for her chamber job and could not attend.

Krawczak was elected to the board in November 2014 and was reelected last November for a term that ends December 31, 2022.

The board is expected to solicit interested parties and then appoint a new member to fill the remainder of the seat’s term following interviews. It has 30 days to do so.
