Alpena County is facing a slightly larger general fund budget deficit following first quarter adjustments.

But Treasurer Kim Ludlow told True North Radio Network that a small increase in expenses during the first three months of the year is normal and she doesn’t see any big concerns on the horizon.

The county started the fiscal year with a projected shortfall of $755,967. At the end of March that had grown to an estimated $755,995, an increase of $28,000.

Revenues were up slightly compared to one year ago and expenses were down a bit through March.

The county started the fiscal year with an unaudited general fund balance of $4.81 million. Ludlow is estimating that balance at closer to $4.06 million as of March 31.
