The Alpena Municipal Council has adopted a proclamation in support of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect and promotes the social and emotional well-being of children and families.

The city’s proclamation applauds the Exchange Club of Alpena for the work its members do in the prevention of child abuse.

The proclamation also says the city “…stands firmly on the side of prevention of any type of abuse and believes no child should endure verbal, emotional or physical abuse for any reason.”

The Exchange Club and the Alpena High School Wildcat Excel Club recently made 26 fleece tie blankets that were presented to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeast Michigan.

In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Exchange Club encourages residents to show their support by wearing blue each Monday in April, and share a photograph of themselves wearing blue on the Club’s Facebook page.

To learn more about the Exchange Club, contact President Tony Suszek at 356-4434.
