The deadline to file your 2018 personal income tax return is midnight Monday.

Many big city post offices will be stay open late tonight, but around northern Michigan they will close at their regular time.

However, postmasters in the area say tax forms put into a postal box before midnight will be postmarked with today’s date.

Information about free e-file options, such as IRS FreeFile, how to request an automatic six-month filing extension or fast, secure ways to pay any tax due using IRS Direct Pay are available at IRS.gov.

Because of the Patriots’ Day holiday today in Maine and Massachusetts and the Emancipation Day holiday on Tuesday in the District of Columbia, taxpayers who live in Maine or Massachusetts have until Wednesday to file their returns.

The IRS says it has issued almost 78 million tax refunds totaling $220.8 billion, with an average refund of $2,833.
