By all accounts it appears Alpena Public Schools is on track for another financially successful fiscal year.

A subcommittee for the board of education received an overview of the second general fund budget adjustment of the 2018-19 fiscal year Thursday morning.

The adjustment revealed an increase of nearly $2.7 million to both revenues and expenses, primarily due to grants.  The net result is a modest increase of $4,505 to the general fund balance.

The district started the fiscal year on July 1 with an audited fund balance of approximately $4.03 million.  The surplus is now expected to grow to a little more than $4.2 million, an increase on the year of nearly $189,000.

Mary Lyon, the Associate Superintendent for Business and Operations at APS does not see anything alarming on the horizon that would significantly impact the budget before the fiscal year ends June 30.

The board of education for APS is expected to approve the budget adjustment when it meets on Monday.
