A 21 year-old Hillman man has admitted to raping his stepsister on at least two occasions.

Justin Eugene Berg, 21, pleaded guilty Monday to two reduced counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct –relation.

He admitted to sexually assaulting the victim two times on February 9, 2018, when the girl was 15 years-old.  Berg was 19 at the time.
The victim testified during a preliminary examination that the assaults had been occurring since she was 8 years-old.

In exchange for the guilty plea, Berg is expected to receive a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison.  The settlement agreement also averts a trial that would have required the victim to testify.

Alpena County assistant prosecutor Cynthia Muszynski says, “We worked diligently with the victim and her mother, and with their full support, we believe justice is served with this resolution.”

Berg remains in jail and will be sentenced May 6.
