Storch raising funds to redo courts in high school gymnasium

Alpena Public Schools Athletic Director Tim Storch is at it again.

After successfully raising money to pay for a new state-of-the-art digital scoreboard and better lighting at Wildcat Stadium, Storch is spearheading an effort to refinish the courts inside the high school gymnasium.

It has been more than a decade since the lines were painted on the courts and there is some discoloration of letters along with some varnish issues.  There is also some unevenness of the floor that needs to be addressed.

Storch is working with a company that can not only fix the problems but also move the courts closer to the main bleachers for better fan involvement.  That move would also allow two full size courts to be squeezed into the gym.

Storch is selling sponsorships to pay for the improvements.  Each sponsor logo will be featured on the courts.  Superintendent John VanWagoner hopes to also have the entire gymnasium repainted and signage and banners replaced as needed.

All of the work is expected to occur over the summer months.
