The Alpena Municipal Council is expected to start discussions on a search for a new city manager in the coming days or weeks.

Manager Greg Sundin recently announced he will be retiring on December 20 after approximately 6.5 years as city manager and another 15 years as planning and development director.

Mayor Matt Waligora says council has yet to discuss the opening but will likely start those talks soon.  He said council has quite a few options to consider, including the possibility of hiring of a consultant to conduct the search, a process the city has used in the past and one that it quite common among municipalities.

In fact, the city hired a consultant to conduct a search after Sundin’s predecessor, Thad Taylor, was let go, although Sundin ended up with the position.

Waligora noted there is no reason to rush the process along since Sundin is staying until late December.
