Michigan State Police West Branch Post say distracted driving may have played a role in a crash involving a car and a farm combine Tuesday which left one woman dead.

The accident happened on M-55 near Lorenz Road in Tawas Township.

Troopers say the driver of the combine, a 44 year old man from Tawas, was travelling west on the highway when he observed in his mirror a car rapidly approaching from behind. The car then collided in to the rear of the combine.

Thirty year old Allison Mitchell from National City was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Mitchell may have been texting while driving. There were no signs of braking before the crash and seatbelts were not worn. Drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
