Tommy Atkinson has been named Head Football Coach at Whittemore Prescott High School. In addition to taking over the reins of the Cardinal’s football program, Atkinson will also teach social studies at the school, and is expected to assume additional coaching duties going forward.

Atkinson, an Alpena High School graduate within the class of 2009, has coached for the past eight school years at Beal City High School within Aggies’ highly successful football and baseball programs. During his time at Beal City, Tommy has coached in five state championship games within the two sports. During the past two school years, he has taught social studies at Marion High School. The son of Tom and Mary Atkinson of Lachine, Tommy played baseball and football for the Alpena Wildcats. Tommy played a year of baseball at Madonna University, before transferring to Central Michigan University and beginning a successful two sport coaching stint with Beal City.

Because of the late hire date and the Fourth of July Dead Period Week, Tommy will be working hard the rest of the summer in catching up to the other North Star League opponents. The Whittemore Prescott Cardinals will open the season on Friday, August 24, at 7:00 at Gilpin Field in Rogers City, when they will take on the hometown Hurons.
