Sandra Jean Werth

Sandra Jean Werth, of Alpena passed away on April 12, 2018 at the age of 81 at Medilodge Alpena.

Sandra was born May 21, 1936 in Rogers City to Grace and George Teeples and was raised by her aunt and uncle; Vlinda and Bill Coss of Alpena. She graduated from Alpena Public Schools. In her early working years, she worked as a secretary and aid for the late Dr. Burkholder. She was also an employee of Dairy Queen when they first opened.

She met her future husband Harry V. Werth in elementary school and married him on March 30, 1957. Together they lived in Florida and Georgia while Harry was a Naval Aviator then moved back to the Alpena area in 1960 to join the family business; Werth Electric Inc. and raise their family. Together they had five children Leslie, Brant, Juliet, Owen and Dane. Sandra raised her family while being secretary at Werth Electric Inc. for many years and being a stockholder of Ripley Annex Inc. with Harry. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church ELCA. Sandra was an avid reader and could always find a good book. She was also a member of Hobbs Homemakers and Zonta. A firm believer in giving back to her community, she served at The Friendship room, taught vacation bible school, served on alter care and was also a room mother while her kids were in grade school.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years Harry. Surviving also is four of her five children; Rev. Leslie Nye, Juliet (Paul) Kieliszewski, Owen Werth and Dane (Korrine) Werth. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Gwyneth and Gillian Nye, Katie and Jared Kieliszewski, Gabrielle, Alexandra, Victoria, Lydia and Avery Werth, Braedan and Alayna Werth. Sandra also leaves behind younger sisters Ellen (Hank) Schlegel of Flushing; and Linda (Bob) Urlaub of Rogers City and sister-in-law Lucille Wegmeyer of East China Michigan. Special family friend Roger Finch of Hubbard Lake is also feeling her loss. Sandra was preceded in death by her son Brant Werth and siblings Charlene, David, Phyllis, and Judy.

Visitation will be at McWilliams Funeral Home on Sunday April 15, 2018 from 2-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday April 16th at St. Paul Lutheran Church Alpena from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Shirley Ross-Jones officiating. Sandra will be cremated and interned at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
