At the Division 1 boys cross country finals at Michigan International Speedway, Alpena runner Mitchell Day took runner up honors for the second straight year, just sixteen seconds behind the state champ from Dearborn. That makes the third straight year for Day to hear all state honors. Also taking all state honors are brother Aden and Josh Smith.
Rogers City’s Emily Malocha also received all state honors finishing 16th in the Division 4 girls race.
The Alpena Wildcats fell to Travers City Central in 5 sets at the district semifinals. TC went on to sweep Gaylord in the finals.
In a game featuring 25 penalties, the Alpena Flyers were home at Northern Lights Arena and came from behind and beat the Kalkaska Rhinos 3-2. The 6-4 Flyers will be in Boston for games starting Friday.
