The Team North Snipers members will have three practices in Traverse City, Gaylord and Alpena; leading up to the Grand Rapids event June 19-22 where six teams from around the state will compete in a minimum of four games.  The top four teams will vie for the medal round.

This marks the second year the State Games of Michigan includes girls’ hockey, the Team North Snipers will skate in front of college scouts from at least five NCAA or ACHA.  Visit this site for tournament information: http://www.stategamesofmichigan.com/index.php?module=cms&page=93.  Girls from Traverse City, Manton, Interlochen, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix and Cheboygan make up the remainder of the Snipers.

Northern Michigan’s District 7 head coach Jake Martin of Alpena observed, “With this being the first year a team from Northern Lower Michigan will compete in the State Games, I truly didn’t know what to expect from our tryouts.  Frankly, all of the girls made selecting this team far more difficult than I imagined.  Our coaching staff looked for speed, determination and commitment and we believe we’ve selected a team for a run at the Gold Medal.”

Martin continued, “The State Games of Michigan sponsored by Meijer offers the Team North Snipers an incredible opportunity to showcase their hockey talent. Girl’s hockey is the fastest growing female collegiate sport and the Michigan Games gives our Northern player’s exposure to multiple college programs from around the Midwest.”

The State Games of Michigan sponsored by Meijer features athletes in over 30 different Olympic-style sports and embody the values of participation, sportsmanship and healthy living among residents of the State of Michigan.  The State Games is a non-profit entity and does make any money on the tournament.
