Local sports over the weekend:

Baseball

The Alpena varsity baseball team went 1-1 in a tournament at Bay City Western. The Wildcats dropped their opening game, 4 to 0, to Beal City and then beat Owosso, 7 to 3.

Alcona also went 1-1 in a tournament on Saturday. Alcona defeated host  Tawas in its first game 5 to 1 but then fell to Ogemaw Heights 5 to 4.

Softball

The Alpena varsity softball team won three games and lost one at the Flint Kearsley Tournament. In pool play, the Wildcats lost to Howell 9 to 8 and defeated Clare 8 to 7. Alpena beat Imlay City 7 to 6 and Rapid River 10 to 3 in crossover play.

Posen won the Wozniak Invitational Tournament on its home field in Posen. The Vikings defeated Onaway 9 to 2 and then beat Mio 5 to 2 in the championship game.

The Alpena Junior Varsity softball team won the Pinconning Tournament on Saturday. Alpena won its opener against Pinconning 11 to 0, beat Freeland 29 to 11, and defeated Traverse City 21 to 2 in the final.

Girls Soccer

Alpena went 1-2 and finished third as host of the inaugural Sunrise Side Soccer Challenge Cup at Wildcat Stadium. The Wildcats opened with a 1 to 0 win over Boyne City and then lost to Marquette 4 to 0 and Clarkston 3 to 0.
