Local sports round-up for April 28

The Alpena High School softball team swept Marquette in a doubleheader on Saturday in the Upper Peninsula. The Wildcats won the first game 3 to 2 and then cruised to victory in the second game 15 to 2.


The Hillman baseball team hosted a four-team invitational tournament on Saturday. Whittemore-Prescott took top honors by defeating Ogemaw Heights, 2 to 1, in the championship game. Hillman finished third and McBain fourth.

The Alpena JV baseball team started its season on the road in Ann Arbor. The Wildcats lost their first game against Hartland, 10 to 3, and then came back to beat Ann Arbor Skyline 15 to 9.

College Softball

The Alpena Community College softball team hosted Mott Community College over the weekend and lost three out of four games to the Bears. The Lady Lumberjacks split a pair of games with Mott on Saturday and lost 10 to 6 in Sunday’s first game and 3 to 1 in the second.
