The Alpena Wildcat football team will begin its 2013 season next Thursday, August 29, in Escanaba.

They will take the long trip north with their new head coach, Mel Skillman.

Alpena named Skillman as the head coach back in late June, and he comes with impressive credentials.

Skillman has been coaching for 57 years and has won 257 games, which includes several playoff wins and two Class B runner-up finishes. The spread offense that he brings looks to rejuvenate an offense that has had its struggles the past few seasons.

The Wildcats will open Big North Conference play on September 13, at Ogemaw Heights. The 2013 campaign will feature four home games, beginning September 6, against Sault Ste Marie, and ending against Gaylord on October 25.

You can listen to all of the exciting Wildcat football action on 107.7 The Bay, as the most electrifying tandem in sports entertainment today, Dr. Z and Ray McDade bring you all the thrills of the 2013 season.
