The Alpena High Wildcat hockey team earned a big conference victory at the Wexford Civic Center Friday night in Cadillac, defeating the Vikings by a final score of 3-2.

It was a back and forth game for most of the night.

Alpena took a 2-1 lead in the second period when Sam Rumbles received the puck from the faceoff and lit the lamp.

Cadillac responded early in the third period and tied the game up at two goals apiece.

The Wildcats continued to battle and Rumbles was able to find the back of the net again with just 56 seconds left in the game.

Cadillac quickly pulled their goalie, but solid defense from Alpena prevented the Vikings from getting much pressure at all, and held on to earn the tough road victory.

With the win, the Wildcats are now 7-7-1 overall.

Alpena has a big game Wednesday night, as they take the ice against the Sault St. Marie Blue Devils.
