Alpena kicked off the tournament with an exciting game Friday night against the Anchor Bay Tars.

The Wildcats put a lot of pressure on the Tars in the first period, but only found the back of the net once.

Anchor Bay scored two goals quick in the second period to take the lead.

Alpena would answer back late in the period as Cole Cosbitt scored on a breakaway.

The Wildcats pulled their goalie in the final minute of the game and had opportunities at the end, but had their final shot float over top of the net to end the game, and come up on the short end of a 3-2 loss.

Alpena finished the weekend with a 5-5 tie in the consolation game against the Hudsonville Eagles.
