Elsie May Montie, 95, of Alpena died Friday June 29, 2012 at her residence at Turning Brook.
Elsie was born November 17, 1916 in Stroudsburg, PA to Benjamin and Daisy (Kline) Eckhart.  She lived in Alpena and was a member of First United Methodist Church until 1970 when she moved to Grand Rapids, becoming a member of North Lawn United Methodist.  She was employed at Montgomery Ward as a bookkeeper for many years.  Elsie was a Red Cross volunteer, and also volunteered many thousands of hours at Grand Rapids Hospitals and the VA Center.  She loved to bowl and still bowled on two teams at the age of 91.  She enjoyed the many occasions playing cards with friends.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two sisters; Blanche Ross, Florence Newhouse, and her brother; Robert Eckhart.
Family and friends will gather on Monday July 2, 2012 at McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 noon with Rev. Gene Bacon officiating.  Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church.
