Sports round-up for May 7

The Alpena Huron Shore Little League kicked off play with Opening Ceremonies at Alpena's McRae Park.


Alpena (7-8) hosted Grosse Pointe North on Saturday and lost both games of a doubleheader, 7 to 1 and 3 to 1, to the Norsemen.


Alpena competed in the Michigan Stars Tournament in Clarkston and went 2-3. The Wildcats defeated Holly and St. Clair Shores and lost games to Farmington Hills, Midland, and Rochester.

The Rogers City softball team won the Big Cat Tournament in Birch Run. The Hurons won their three-team pool with a win against Birch Run, then took the title by beating Marine City, 4 to 3.

Posen won the Grayling Invitational, defeating Grayling and Harrison by a combined score of 17 to 4.

Hillman beat Pellston and lost to Rudyard on it way to a second place finish in a tournament held in Rudyard.

Boys Golf

The Alpena High boys golf team finished 10th out of 14 teams in the Petoskey Invitational. The Wildcats finished with a team score of 356.
