Area spring sports are underway!

Alpena opened the 2012 season by hosting Tawas in a doubleheader.


The Alpena High School baseball team kicked off the 2012 season by hosting Tawas in a doubleheader. Alpena swept the Braves, winning the first game 16 to 1 and the nightcap 13 to 0.

Rogers City opened their season on the road at Johannesburg-Lewiston and lost a close game, 3 to 2, to the Cardinals. The second game was called after one inning due to inclement weather.

Alcona swept Hillman, 3 to 2 and 6 to 3, in the season opening twinbill for both schools.


The Rogers City softball team started the season off with a powerful five-inning win on the road, 24 to 1, against Johannesburg-Lewiston.

Hillman traveled to Lincoln yesterday and won both games of an afternoon doubleheader against Alcona. Hillman won the first game, 21 to 2, and the second, 15 to 0.

Luke Cordes was on the mound for Alpena's season opener.


The Alpena High girls soccer team won their season opener yesterday. The Wildcats defeated Ogemaw Heights, 2 to 0, on the road in West Branch.
