City re-opens RFQ&P process for sale of civic center

There’s renewed interest in the Alpena Civic and Convention Center.

The property is currently for sale and the city has initiated a second round of request for proposals for the purchase of the facility due to an increased level of interest.

Last month city planning and development director Greg Sundin told True North Radio two other entities had expressed an interest in the center.  It is not known if more potential buyers have since stepped forward.

But the city is again accepting Request for Qualifications and Proposals (RFQ&P), through March 18, at 2 p.m.  The RFQ&P’s will be opened after that time and a recommendation will be taken to the municipal council to sell or not sell the property.

Copies of the RFQ&P’s and any questions should be directed to Sundin at 354-1700.

When the deadline for the first round of offers passed in October, 2010, only one entity, a church, submitted a proposal.  That proposal was ultimately turned down by city council.
