An Alpena High School cheerleader will be a cast member in the halftime show of the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day.
The game traditionally pits two of the top college football teams from the Big Ten and Southeastern (SEC) conferences.
Taylor Laundry, a 15 year-old junior at Alpena High will be among the performers taking part in the game’s halftime festivities. Laundry attended a special cheerleading camp this past summer where she was recruited for the halftime show, which features some of the Nation’s top students.
Laundry is currently co-captain of the Alpena squad. She is also active in the community, volunteering with Alpena County Relay for Life, packing food boxes for the Salvation Army Christmas program and wrapping gifts for Toys for Kids, to name a few. She wants to attend Northern Michigan University and pursue a career in forensic anthropology, and hopes to become a cheerleader at the collegiate level.
The Capital One Bowl is held in Orlando, Florida. The Laundry family is currently accepting donations for Taylor’s six-day performance tour. Donations can be dropped off at First Federal of Northern Michigan in downtown Alpena. For more information contact Taylor’s mom, Brandi, at 354-7346.
