July was warm & rainy

The month of July was warm and wet for many communities across northern lower Michigan.
Above average temperatures were recorded from Alpena to Houghton Lake to Traverse City and Sault Ste. Marie. 
In Alpena, daily high temperatures averaged 81.6 degrees, or nearly 3 degrees above the long term average.  Nightly lows were also above average as was the mean temperature of 70.1 degrees.  A high of 92 degrees was recorded at the Alpena airport on July 4.  A low of 45 degrees was recorded on both the 1st and 2nd.
Rainfall amounts were also well above average for most communities, until you cross the Mackinac Bridge.
A little more than 4 inches of rain fell during the month in Alpena, or 1.1 inches above the norm.  The highest rainfall total in the region was measured in Houghton Lake, where 6.14 inches fell.
