The Alpena County Road Commission will begin sealcoating several roads Monday, weather permitting.

Sealcoating is the process of applying emulsified asphalt on an existing paved service, then covering with crushed stone.  Sealcoating preserves pavement by treating cracks, oxidation and other distresses.

The road commission plans to complete approximately 7 miles on the primary road system this season.  Roads slated to be sealcoated include: French, from Bloom Road to LaComb Road; LaComb, from French to Long Lake Road; LaComb, from Cathro Road to Schrader Road; Long Lake, from US-23 to LaComb; and Bolton Road, from Dagett Road to the north county line.

The cost to sealcoat one mile of roadway is approximately $18,000.
