Dobbyn restitution hearings continue

A second restitution hearing was held Tuesday, to try and determine how much money former Montmorency County magistrate Kim Dobbyn should pay to the county.

The first hearing was held earlier this month and it might take one or two more before a judge rules on how much Dobbyn should pay back.  In January, she pled guilty to a single count of embezzlement of a public official over $50.

Dobbyn, 52, has already paid back some $20,000 to the county, but a state auditor that looked through the transactions believes she stole more than $120,000.  The crimes were committed over a 4-year period, between January 2003 and December 2007.

The next restitution hearing date has not yet been set.  Calls to special prosecutor Bill Pfiefer of Alpena were not returned.
