U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak is accepting applications from area students seeking a congressional nomination to America’s military academies.

Students who will be seniors next year and those currently enrolled in college could be eligible for a service academy nomination.

“The caliber of the achievements and character of the men and women from northern Michigan who apply for this nomination impress me every year,” Stupak said.

Applicants must be a legal resident of Michigan’s First Congressional district, at least 17 years-old but not past a 23rd birthday by July 1 of the year of academy entry, unmarried with no dependants and a United States citizen.

A Citizens Advisory Committee made up of community representatives from across the First District will review applications, interview candidates and make recommendations.

To be eligible for an interview, all necessary paperwork must be completed by October 9, 2010.  For additional information, visit Stupak’s website at www.house.gov/stupak.
