Police have caught up to the man who may be responsible for stealing over a thousand pounds of copper wire from the Carmeuse Lime and Stone Quarry in Mackinac County.

The operations manager at the quarry called State Police at the St. Ignace Post after 200 – 300 pounds of copper wire was stolen last Friday.  The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of 47 year-old Christian Paul Williams of Pickford.  Williams admitted to troopers that he was the one who stole copper from the quarry on a different day in April.

He received over $600 when he turned in the copper at a local scrap yard.

Officials say between 1000 and 1,200 pounds of copper has been stolen from the quarry since the beginning of the year.

Williams is charged with larceny over $1,000 but less than $20,000.  He was arraigned Monday and bond was set at $10,000 cash.
