The City of Alpena has decided to establish an election receiving board.

Receiving boards inspect all ballot container seals on the night of an election, along with poll books and statement of votes that are submitted by each precinct after the polls close.  The receiving board also has the authority to resolve discrepancies and note them in the poll book.

City Clerk Karen Hebert made the recommendation to form the board, saying the State Of Michigan encourages the use of receiving boards.  She believes it will be a big help and make things run more smoothly on election nights.

Hebert said the receiving board will likely be made up of two election inspectors.  It will add approximately $40 to the cost of running an election.
