Alpena Regional Medical Center hires new CFO

Alpena Regional Medical Center has hired a new chief financial officer (CFO).

George Smart, a native of northeast Michigan with over 20 years financial health care experience will take over the reins on July 12.  For the past 10 years Smart has been the Vice President of Finance and System Operations at Zeeland Community Hospital in Zeeland.  Prior to that, he was the Assistant Chief Finance Officer at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord.

“I find that communication is a vital component to help all parties
grasp and understand how health care finance works and how we need to work within this environment to be successful,” said Smart.  “The ultimate focus is on the patient and how our decisions will effectively improve their outcome.”

Smart will be moving to Alpena with his wife Joan.  They have two daughters.  One recently graduated from college and the other is a junior at Western Michigan University.
