Everett Jay Goodrich, 90, of  Alpena, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 24, 2010.
Everett was born in Alpena on November 22, 1919 to the late Ransom and Martha (Eagling) Goodrich.  He started his life on a farm in Green Township and as a teenager worked summers on his uncle Alman Eagling’s farm helping hay and working with the race horses.  In his late teens and early twenties he boxed in the Golden Gloves taking the championship in featherweight division in 1939.  During World War II he served in the Navy Sea Bees in the South Pacific.  Upon his discharge from the service, Everett went to work at Hudson Motor Car in Detroit,  saving enough money to purchase his first small dump truck.  At that time, he moved back to Alpena, trucking in the summer and bartending at the Hide-a-Way Inn during the winter months.  Through the early years he was able to purchase additional trucks one at a time; and, along with his brother Russell as mechanic, they built Everett Goodrich Trucking and Paving, Inc., which has been serving the Alpena and surrounding communities for over sixty years.
He was a member of Alpena Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #65, and the V.F.W. Post #2496.  Everett was also an avid hunter throughout his entire life and his greatest pleasures were deer camp, friends, and a good party.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, including Sharon Holzwarth of Alpena, Rhoda Mills of Herron, Bruce and Michelle (Kowalski) Goodrich of Ossineke, Edith Munroe of Florida; great nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Chris) Munro of Traverse City, Carla (Emmet) Yuchasz, Jeff Goodrich both of Alpena and Vance Mills and Amber (Brian) Fortner both of Herron.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Russell, Thomas, Marshall Goodrich; and nephews, Russell Goodrich Jr. and Michael Goodrich.
Visitation for Everett will be held at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. with a V.F.W. Post 2496 service at 6:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be at the funeral home Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Owen Williams officiating.
Interment:  Evergreen Cemetery
