State Representative Joel Sheltrown (D-West Branch) announced this morning that he is ending his Democratic campaign for the 1st Congressional District.

Sheltrown issued the following statement:

“The past three weeks have been an exceptional experience.  I very much appreciate the support I’ve received throughout northern Michigan including the nearly 1,800 people who signed and distributed nominating petitions.

I have come to the determination that in order to run a successful race for Congress this year, I would have been required to compromise my core values and abandon my duties as a legislator to campaign full-time over the next six months.

I will not seek state or federal office this year in the Democratic primary.  Instead, I will devote my attention to my legislative efforts and to the campaigns to elect Andy Dillon as our next governor and Van Sheltrown as the next representative for the 103rd House District.”
