ALPENA COMMUNITY COLLEGE PRESS RELEASE:

The small courtyard garden located in the middle of Alpena Community College’s Besser Technical Center received a new honor during a dedication ceremony held Wednesday, April 21.

Students and staff gathered to unveil a plaque in honor of ACC students; the project was spearheaded by ACC alumni and current Ferris State student Terri Drake.

With the help of ACC administration and sponsors, Drake obtained a plaque which reads: “Dedicated to the memory of, and in honor of, those ACC students who dared to dream.” Drake says this is a tribute to all students who have passed through the halls at ACC regardless of whether or not they were able to graduate or had to take a break to take care of life’s interruptions.

“I volunteer to take care of the plants in the ACC Besser Tech lobby. I look out into that courtyard and I never see anyone sitting out there. It is such a beautiful spot and no-one uses it. I just wanted to give it the attention it deserves and honor all ACC students at the same time,” Drake said.
