True North Radio Network intern Jonny Zawacki will be blogging about his experiences playing for the Alpena High School Wildcats varsity baseball team this season.

Since the last blog we have had a total of eight games. Over these games the whole team has started heating up. We have a record of 6-2 over the past week and overall 6-4. Everyone is determined to keep on our winning ways and we have been stellar at the plate over the past week.

Many of the guys treat the games as special occasions, as evidenced by senior

Aniket Arora showing why he was voted "best-dressed" by his classmates.

Aniket Arora’s choice of footwear. The team is required to dress professionally on game days. On Tuesday, after our big win against Rogers City, Aniket was showing off his famous footwear, which were a very nice pair of dress shoes, along with his baseball pants. Aniket always makes a fashion statement, as he has been voted “best-dressed” by his classmates throughout the 2010 school year.

This also looks to be another big weekend for Alpena baseball as we host our first home tournament of the season. We will have to wait until Friday to find out who our opponents will be, as we have not yet been informed what other three teams will be involved in the weekend tourney.

Before our big weekend, we must focus on our opponents tomorrow, as we will be heading north to the Sault to take on the Blue Devils. The guys plan to gain some more momentum as we approach the weekend.

The first pitch of the weekend tournament will be Friday at 4 p.m. and will resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m., leading up to the championship game later that afternoon. We are all excited for the upcoming tournament and hope to put on a show for the hometown crowd.
