AHS track teams showed their Wildcat Pride in Gaylord Tuesday afternoon

The Alpena High School track teams traveled to Gaylord Tuesday afternoon to compete against the Blue Devils and came home with nearly a dozen first place finishes.

The girls team won their second meet of the season by a wide margin, 108 to 56, while the boys squad came up short in the end, losing 90 to 72.

Under near cloudless skies and with spring temperatures near 70 degrees, the girls team rode a wave of top three finishes in five events to victory.

Paige Stepanski set a personal best in winning the high jump and also won the 300 meter hurdles. Emily Duncan won the long jump and 400 meters. Samara Donajkowski also won a pair of individual events, placing first in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters.

Shelby Duncan had a dominating performance in the 100 meters and Taylor Stepanski cruised to victory in the 800 meters for the 3rd consecutive meet.

On the boys side, Tom Dihle won the discus, hurling the iron 123’- 9”. Other first place finishers included Aaron Golbeck in the pole vault, Tyler Samp in the long jump, Blake Olsen in the 300 meter hurdles and Jeremy Reeves in the 200 meters.
