NE MI communities come together to stir up tourism

For the first time in history, six communities in Northeast Michigan have come together to promote tourism across the region.

Special events were held in Alpena and Tawas City Thursday, unveiling a new radio campaign.  The events were hosted by the Sunrise Side Coast Coalition and Travel Michigan, which is promoting its Pure Michigan tourism campaign.

The local $80,000 summer and fall tourism campaign highlights Alcona, Alpena, Arenac, Cheboygan, Iosco and Presque Isle counties.  The campaign is part of a dollar-for-dollar matching fund program and was paid for by three dozen municipalities and other organizations within the participating counties.  The Sunrise Coast is also featured on the Pure Michigan website. 

The radio ads feature the voice of Michigan native Tim Allen and theme music from The Cider House Rules.  The ad promotes the Sunrise Coast as a place where visitors can “Get Back to the Water” by escaping from their hectic lives and enjoying the simple pleasures of stunning water and charming towns.

The radio ads will be airing in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Muskegon, Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, beginning in mid-May.
