A large employee group of Alpena Regional Medical Center has voted down a second contract offer.

True North Radio has learned the nearly 300 members of the steelworkers union – local 204 voted down the latest offer Thursday.  An insider said the offer was virtually the same as the last one, which was voted down due to cuts in benefits, contract language and a shortened paid lunch period that has employees concerned about coverage in the event of an emergency.

The last two sentences of the new offer read, “The comprehensive proposal must be ratified by membership on or before April 8,2010.  In the event this proposal is not ratified, a final offer will be presented by the employer to the union.”

Local 204 employees are spread throughout the hospital, including such departments as x-ray, medical records, the business office, home health care, housekeeping, plant operations and more.
