Tomas Holmstrom’s 20th goal of the season gives the Detroit Red Wings a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames. He scored with 1:19 left in the third period last night for the win. Pavel Datsyuk (PAH’-vuhl DAT’-sook) also scored for Detroit, which has won three in a row.

The Detroit Pistons have lost for the ninth time in 11 games as the Boston Celtics coasted to a 119-93 home victory. Detroit played most of the game without Tayshaun Prince, who limped away with help after colliding with teammate Jason Maxiell.

Michigan State will meet Mid-American Conference champion Bowling Green on Saturday in the first round of the women’s basketball tournament. The fifth- seeded Spartans are 22-9 as they make their seventh tournament appearance in eight seasons.

Miguel Cabrera has hit his first homer of spring training in the Detroit Tigers’ 10-7 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Brennan Boesch also went deep. Detroit starter Armando Galarraga allowed three runs, all earned, as his spring training ERA jumped to 11.57.
